Celebrating 150 Years Of Compassion
Join Us in Celebrating Our Legacy and Looking Toward a Bright Future!

Intro
As we mark the 150th anniversary of Monadnock Humane Society, we reflect on the powerful legacy that has shaped who we are today. A recent tributeādelivered during the presentation of a local Nonprofit of the Year awardābeautifully captured both our history and the impact we continue to make.
In the words of historian and NH Humanities speaker Jennifer Carroll, who has extensively researched humane societies and the life of Jennie B. Powers, an early local agent for animal welfare:
āA stallion named Bambi helped launch a new chapter in the life of a vital organization in the Monadnock Region, one that now spans 150 years.ā
From that pivotal moment in 1964, when a neglected Morgan horse sparked a community movement, to todayāwhere our organization touches the lives of over 7,000 animals annuallyāMonadnock Humane Society remains rooted in compassion, innovation, and community care.
We invite you to explore our history, learn about the milestones that brought us here, and join us in celebrating 150 years of making a differenceāfor animals, and for the people who love them.

In celebration of our 150th Anniversary, we are thrilled to share this special interview with documentary filmmaker Ken Burns. After rescuing two dogs that had been abandoned near their office in Walpole, NH, members of Ken’s staff volunteered to help put together this video during their free time. Vermont musician Dana Robinson then graciously allowed his music to be used free of charge. It was made at no cost to us, and we are deeply grateful to everyone involved. Take a moment to watch, and let this inspiring story move you. We couldn’t be more excited to share it with you!
